Mr. Parente retired as a detective lieutenant from the New York Police Department after twenty years of service.
As a detective lieutenant Mr. Parente served as executive officer and managing attorney in the NYPD’s legal bureau where he supervised a legal staff of 65 individuals, including; 5 deputy managing attorneys and 30 staff attorneys.
Previously, Mr. Parente was counsel and aide to then Police Commissioner Howard Safir. Mr. Parente started his police career as a plain clothes officer in Queens and was later promoted to Sergeant with the street narcotics enforcement unit before joining the Police Commissioner’s Office of management, analysis and planning. Mr. Parente is admitted before the New York State Bar, United States Supreme Court and the United States District Courts - Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Dan received his Juris Doctor from New York Law School and his Bachelor of Science in Governmental Studies from the State University of New York. Mr. Parente is the recipient of the NYPD’s prestigious Academic Scholarship Award and the Nathan Berkamp Writing Award.
